Colorado Mr. Mom

Here you will find the days of my life as a Stay at Home Dad along with be it, action packed diaper training, or whatever I may be noodling over at the time.
I have done a wide variety of jobs in my life but nothing has been as rewarding or as difficult as this. Everything changes on a daily basis and your average toddler does not have, or play by any given set of rules.
I will do my best trying to keep my blog updated and current but as you know, the only time that matters to a toddler is NOW!

Gas Price fixing RANT

Some interesting facts:

The largest five oil companies operating in the United States are,

1. Exxon Mobil
2. Chevron Texaco
3. Conoco Phillips
4. BP
5. Royal Dutch Shell
Who now control:

14.2% of global oil production (nearly as much as the entire Middle East members of the OPEC cartel).
48% of the domestic oil production (which is significant given the fact that the U.S. is the largest oil producer in the world).
50.3% of domestic refinery capacity.
61.8% of the retail gasoline market.
These same five companies also control 21.3% of domestic natural gas production.
It is then little wonder why these top companies enjoyed after-tax profits of $60 billion in 2003 alone.

These figures are in harsh contrast to just a decade ago, when the top five oil companies controlled only:

7.7% of global crude oil production.
33.7% of domestic crude oil production.
33.4% of domestic refinery capacity.
27.0% of the retail market.
In addition, in 1993, the top five U.S. companies controlled only 12.7% of domestic natural gas production.
SOURCE: Compiled by Public Citizen's Energy Program www.citizen.org/cmep from corporate annual reports and U.S. Energy Information Administration data.

You decide, are gas prices getting more expensive when summer travel season arrives but cheaper in the winter months? Imagine if you will, McDonald's, Wendy's, Burger King and Arby's controlled the fast food market. Prices would be at a premium at meal times and food would be cheaper midmorning, mid afternoon and late night.
Until next time,
-Mike
www.milehidad.com
